This beautiful little girl is named Fancy. Fancy has a severe neurological condition called hydrocephalus (water on the brain). Thanks to generous donations, Fancy has been able to see the very best neurologists at the University of Pennsylvania. Because of Fancy's high risk to anesthesia and potential life threatening complications we have opted not to have a shunt put in to drain the fluid from her brain. Fancy is a permanent foster cat with FURR. We don't know what her life span will be but we do know that she has a good quality of life and that she's a very happy little girl. Fancy does have seizures and she tips over a lot but her happy attitude tells the real story. Fancy loves to cuddle and watch TV on the couch with her foster mom or snuggling up to Purrfect (another handicapped cat) for a nap. Fancy is truly inspiring. For all of her trials and tribulations in her life, she has never even been in a bad mood. She greets everyone with a meow and gives kisses. She loves life and her angelic way makes everyone who meets her fall in love with her. She has beaten the odds so far... born outside at an old farmhouse and then rescued by an organization that believed in saving her. We hope that she will continue to beat the odds and bless us with her sweetness for a long time to come. Fancy's foster mom says that it's all worth is when Fancy gets excited to play with her favorite toys or gives a kiss when she's held. Fancy has had a recent setback though.... just after Thanksgiving, her foster mom came home from work to find Fancy with a dislocated shoulder. The medication that Fancy takes may have weakened her tendons and ligaments. Fancy had to spend the next 3 weeks bandaged up and since she can't stand on 3 legs, she needed assistance to use the litter box. Things were looking up when she got the bandages off but then her shoulder dislocated again. We are trying to avoid surgery to stabilize Fancy's shoulder blade. Our very creative and wonderful veterinarian got us in touch with someone who is designing a custom made shoulder support vest for Fancy. We hope that wearing a support will give her the stability that she needs longterm so that she can return to her playful ways. If that doesn't work, Fancy will need orthopedic surgery. FURR is committed to caring for Fancy for her entire life. Complications due to her hydrocephalus and to her unstable shoulder mean high vet bills. Please support Fancy's medical bills by donating to Fancy's Fund. All donations are 100% tax deductible. Please send donations to: F.U.R.R., P.O. Box 102, Phillipsburg, NJ 08865 and write "Fancy's Fund" on the check.
Special Needs: Hydrocephalus and Unstable Shoulder
FURR is a 100% volunteer organization. Every penny donated goes to paying our vet bills, caring for our cats living at Petco and TNR. Our adoptions fees don't come close to paying the bills. Please help us save more lives. FURR is a 501(c)3 organization so donations are tax deductible.
It is now kitten season and we are in dire need for more foster homes. Please contact us if you can foster a litter of kittens, bottlebabies or a mom with kittens. FURR pays for all vet care at our partner vets, and experienced foster parents are available to help the newbies through the joys of raising kittens. Fostering is fun, wonderful and saves lives.
